Since I discovered tiling window managers, I simply cannot work without them anymore. On my Windows machines, I use glazewm, and on Linux, I use Hyprland. I don’t own a Mac, but if I did, I would probably use yabai or something similar.
The moment I tried a tiling window manager, I realized I could never go back. If I accidentally forget to turn it on in Windows, I quickly notice that I’m just constantly screwing around with the windows—moving them, resizing them—because they’re in the way. These tiling window managers completely take this responsibility over for you, they actually manage your windows for you, which is what a window manager should do, so you don’t have to think about it anymore.
It’s honestly shocking how much time and attention I used to waste manually arranging windows. Now, the system just makes sure everything fits, stays out of the way, and is ready when I need it. It’s hard to imagine going back to stacking or floating windows after experiencing the convenience and clarity of tiling workflow.
I really recommend everyone to give tiling window managers a try, even if it’s just for a day or two. You might be surprised at how much more focused and efficient you can be when your workspace is organized automatically.
